An exclusive reading of this play written by Shaka Senghor and Daniel Beaty, Saturday, April 20, 2019, 1pm-4pm
The goal of THE CELL is to awaken the public to what it means to be incarcerated. “Emotions were high. The text was raw and powerful and sometimes poetic. Letters from inside and monologues – broken and dysfunctional. Dance and movement made it almost too real. Iconic history met what it means to be incarcerated today.”
The cast featured Casie Casanova, Chloe Arnold, Daniel Beaty, Jerrel O’Neal, Keena Ferguson Fraiser, Nic Few, Ron Myles, and Shan Moreno. The project was managed by Casie Casanova (producer), Chloe Arnold (choreographer), James Grabowski (sound), and Kayla Mason (stage).
Co-hosted with the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) who’s mission is to change lives and create safe, healthy communities by providing a support and advocacy network for and by system impacted men and women. To accomplish this, ARC advocates for fair policies in the juvenile and criminal justice systems and provides reentry services. Shaka Senghor is an author and at the time of the reading was the executive director of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition.
