Art and Justice Summit on Alcatraz
Saturday, September 21, 2019
We had two main goals for our Art and Justice Summit on Alcatraz:
(1) To reflect on the work we had accomplished with the year-long exhibition and series of community programs and build towards next steps. This included:
Holding space for the reentry community & other justice impacted individuals to share their stories of trauma and transformation
Expanding the work of Alcatraz as an International Site of Conscience by including individuals from the reentry community who engage in these issues in a real way
Considering the effectiveness of bringing together civic engagement and the arts
(2) To create a video documentation of our conversations that day.
We felt a need to capture the hard-to-see transformative exchanges that defined this project and have given it so much meaning and power. This video will live on after the project and continue to get the message out.
SCHEDULE
